Starting Summer 2016, The University of Toronto food services will truly be the University’s own food service program. After deciding not to renew a contract with a third party supplier, the University will operate all food locations themselves on the St. George campus. This decision provides many exciting opportunities for the campus food scene including fresher, more nutritious meals that are all prepared from scratch, in-house using high quality ingredients. This shift allows the University to imagine food service on campus differently and usher in a new era of on-campus dining.

Students have indicated that more varied food options are important to them and we hope this shift can help us develop meal plans that meet the needs of students. This included the opening of many new concept shops like, Gourmet Burger, So Sushi, Stone Oven Pizzeria, Za’atar and Cumin. If you’re looking for something specific, chances are you can find it somewhere on campus. Food Services has also started their own coffee house, Blue Dragon Coffee, which is locally roasted, ethically sourced and sustainable. The shift to self-operation allows the dedicated Food Services team to ensure that they do business with local suppliers and merchants who’s values and enthusiasm for quality food is matched by those of the University.
